Current WARDOGS Playtest status

The official WARDOGS Closed Beta 02 Announcement defines the original test window from September 3 at 18:00 UTC through September 6 at 08:00 UTC. It says pre-ordering guarantees access and that wider Steam Playtest access is granted in waves.

That was the initial access state. The later official The Closed Beta Is Now an Open Beta announcement superseded it for the remaining window and invited players to join until Sunday at 08:00 UTC. The beta still ended at the same published time. WARDOGS is now available separately in Steam Early Access.

The timeline separates the completed August test, the September test's closed-to-open transition, and the completed Early Access launch. The open-beta announcement changed admission for the remaining test window; it did not extend the beta beyond September 6 at 08:00 UTC or turn that test into the Early Access release.

Can you request Playtest access now?

The Playtest window has ended. Open the official WARDOGS Steam listing for the live Early Access game. A visible request or retained Playtest entry would not override the published September 6 endpoint or prove that a test remains open. This guide cannot submit a request, issue an invitation, or see account-level access.

During Closed Beta #2, a request was registration of interest rather than guaranteed admission. The announcement distinguished that request pool from pre-orders, which guaranteed access for the ended window. It does not establish a new invitation period or retained access after September 6.

What a Steam request does not promise

Seeing a historical “Request Access” entry is not the same as opening the current Early Access game in the Steam library. After the dated window ended, a Playtest control would not independently prove that a beta remains available. This distinction keeps the completed test from being mislabeled as active.

The official material did not provide a queue position, acceptance rate, region order, or exact wave schedule. It identified pre-ordering on Steam as the guaranteed-access route during Closed Beta #2. That historical guarantee does not establish access after the test ended.

Why the Playtest client may show “missing executable”

WARDOGS uses a separate Steam Playtest client. The official announcement confirms the ended test window and access routes, but BULKHEAD has not published a WARDOGS-specific diagnosis for a missing game executable message. An ended separate Playtest client may no longer have a playable build, but that remains a bounded inference rather than an official error diagnosis.

Check the entitlement and download state shown in the signed-in Steam library. Do not install replacement executables, disable security controls, or treat community workarounds as official support. The ended preorder guarantee and invitation waves do not prove current access.

Closed Beta, open beta, and Playtest wording

The September event was initially identified as Closed Beta #2: preorders guaranteed access while Steam Playtest requesters were admitted in waves. On September 5, the official announcement changed the remaining window and the closed beta became an open beta until the same September 6 endpoint. “Playtest” describes Steam’s access system; it does not extend the ended event.

Older active labels can remain visible in videos, posts, or search results after an event ends. This page keeps both beta windows in the timeline so neither is confused with a current playable state.

Safe access and account protection

A legitimate WARDOGS testing route should trace back to Steam, WARDOGS, BULKHEAD, or Team17. Do not pay for an unofficial Playtest key, run an unknown installer, or provide Steam credentials to a page that cannot be verified as official. This site does not distribute executable files or request account linking. The official Steam listing is the safest starting point because access, when granted, belongs in the normal Steam account flow.

Promotional images and trailers are not proof that a public build is downloadable. Likewise, a community post can point toward a question but cannot establish current admission rules for this page. The collected research deliberately excludes unofficial key sales, torrents, and copied beta claims. If an invitation arrives outside Steam, verify its sender and destination against an official WARDOGS or publisher channel before taking action.

Common Playtest questions

Is the WARDOGS beta live right now?

No. At the September 12 verification cutoff, the beta window has ended. It ran from September 3 at 18:00 UTC through September 6 at 08:00 UTC.

Does requesting access guarantee an invitation?

No. During the ended window, Steam Playtest access was granted in waves, so a request did not guarantee selection. The official announcement separately said pre-ordering guaranteed access to Closed Beta #2.

Is there another open beta date?

The September 5 announcement opened the remaining beta window before it ended on September 6. No later open-beta date is announced. WARDOGS is now available separately in Steam Early Access.

Do previous testers keep access?

The collected sources do not answer that question. Prior participation cannot be used to infer future entitlement, and a past install does not prove that servers remain available. Retained access is Unconfirmed. Players should rely on the current state shown in their own Steam library.

When this page should change

This answer should be reviewed when Steam changes the Playtest control or when WARDOGS, BULKHEAD, or Team17 publishes a new access state. A valid update needs exact start and end times, a timezone, access conditions, and the source’s publication date. September 12, 2026 is the evidence cutoff for the status above.
